About Us

I came up with the name Pumpkin Pi way back in 1996 when my flatmates and I were playing around with HTML and designing our own web pages. I was a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan then, so I wanted to use the name pumpkin for my online presence. In fact, I originally wanted it to be pumpkin pie, as my young self said on my very first web page, which was hosted at geocities.com:

Pumpkin Pi Studio. I think I actually thought of pumpkin pie to start off with (somewhere, somehow, somewhy). Then I decide to use it in some nickname in something, but it wouldn’t take in the last ‘e’. So I decided to shorten it down to Pumpkin Pi. And that sounded really cool. So one day I was writing a letter to my sister and decided to put a funky letterhead to it. But then I’d only thought of Pumpkin Pi being a name I used for myself. That was no good, so I decided to make it an ‘organization’. Pumpkin Pi Press? Well, that sounded a bit awkward with all that alliteration. A bit too much, I think. So I thouhgt, hey! How ’bout Pumpkin Pi Studio? ??? So that it was. Pumpkin Pi Studio.

Then my flatmate and I were designing a logo for my new name, and of course, by that time the pie that had turned into pi was obivously going to be the mathematical pi, so it was that this logo came about. I wasn’t much good at computer graphics, so it’s actually credit to my mate Jai, of illitrate publicashions (actually, I can’t remember how he spelled it), who helped my design and ‘draw’ the logo on the computer. The logo you see here is the original (rather pixelated now, but original) logo created back in 1996.
